How to Measure Allan Variance with Zurich Instruments Lock-in Amplifiers

28.08.2023

Allan Variation measurement with Zurich Instruments lock-in amplifiers.

Any measurement resolution is limited by random fluctuations, "noise", of the measured quantities. Practical systems also might experience variations of parameters causing "drifts" in the measurements. Various sources of such noises and drifts may take different time or frequency dependencies. To understand how such fluctuations affect one's measurement, a careful analysis of such noise and drifts must be performed. Discrimination of such noise sources might be performed by performing Allan deviation measurement of discretely sample data. In this blog post, we discuss how to easily measure Allan variance with our Zurich Instruments lock-in amplifier.

Subsampling Techniques for Achieving Waveform Precision in Picoseconds

11.11.2022

Oscilloscope image HDAWG subsampling

An arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) can generate pulses with a timing resolution much finer than its sampling period. Users are often unaware of this capability, yet it enables highly precise timing control in application use cases such as NV center dynamical decoupling, flux pulse width control, AWG channel deskew, and IQ mixer calibration...

A Pythonic Approach to LabOne

In this blog post, we intend to shed light on zhinst-toolkit, our all-new high-level Python API. It aims to provide a pythonic approach to interface the test and measurement instruments from Zurich Instruments.

Efficient Generation of Dynamic Pulses

08.09.2021

Rabi Cyclic

Solid-state qubits are typically characterized and operated by a series of very short pulses. To achieve a high-fidelity control, it is necessary to generate many sequences of them, with very accurate timing. In this blog post, I will show how to use the advanced feature set of the HDAWG Arbitrary...

A LabVIEW Template for Building DLTS Systems with the MFIA

27.07.2021

MFIA configuration

This blog post describes how to get started with writing a LabVIEW™ code to control the MFIA Impedance Analyzer for DLTS measurements . It also includes ideas for independent code for the control of a third-party temperature controller. Deep level transient spectroscopy (DLTS) is a powerful and commonly used technique...

Randomized Benchmarking in Seconds

20.05.2021

Random Benchmarking Sequence

Randomized benchmarking (RB) is a widely used tool in quantum information science to determine qubit fidelity and to characterize individual qubit gates. It is also an excellent example of a quantum experiment with advanced requirements on the control hardware and software. For an RB experiment, we apply random sequences of...

Customized Output Data Format for Impedance Sweeps

16.04.2021

Data Format

This short blog post shows you how to customize the exported data of your impedance sweeps on the MFIA and MFLI with MF-IA option. The Sweeper module of LabOne® is an excellent tool to sweep frequency, amplitude or bias offset, and measure multiple parameters as a function of the swept parameter.
